Mexico eSIM FAQ

Which network does the VayaConData Mexico eSIM use?

Our Mexico plans connect to a national Mexican 4G/LTE network covering Cancún, the Riviera Maya, Tulum, Mexico City, Puerto Vallarta, and Los Cabos.

Do the Mexico plans support 5G?

No — Mexico plans run on a national Mexican 4G/LTE network, not 5G. You get 4G/LTE data nationwide (Cancún, Riviera Maya, Tulum, Mexico City, Puerto Vallarta, Los Cabos), which is plenty for maps, calls over WhatsApp, booking apps and video. 5G is only offered on our Europe eSIMs, where the Orange network provides it.

Does the Mexico eSIM include a phone number or SMS?

No — our Mexico eSIM plans are data-only. You keep using WhatsApp, iMessage, FaceTime, Uber, and Google Maps over your eSIM data connection. Turn data roaming off on your home SIM before departure so you don't trigger daily carrier roaming fees.

Do US travelers need a Mexico eSIM?

Many US unlimited postpaid plans on AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile already include Mexico — check your plan first. A Mexico eSIM is ideal if you are on a US prepaid or metered plan (Verizon TravelPass is US$6/day), hit daily high-speed caps, or are visiting from Canada, the UK, Europe, or Australia.

When does my 7-day or 30-day plan timer start?

You can buy and install your eSIM before you fly. Your validity period starts when the eSIM connects to the local 4G/LTE network in Mexico (or within 30 days of purchase if unused).

Can I use mobile hotspot / tethering in Mexico?

Yes, mobile hotspot and tethering are supported on all four Mexico data plans up to your plan's data allowance.

Does this Mexico eSIM cover Caribbean islands or cruises?

This plan covers Mexico only (including Cozumel and Isla Mujeres). For the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, the Bahamas, or multi-island trips, see our Europe eSIM plans.
