Our Italy eSIM includes a phone number, but it's a French +33 number, not an Italian +39. You can call and text Italian numbers without limit (within Europe) and receive SMS codes. If an Italian service insists on +39 at sign-up, it will refuse a +33 number. 20GB for 31 days, $29.

+33 number, not +39

When +33 is enough in Italy, and when you need +39

We do not provide +39. A +33 line is enough when you need to call or text Italian numbers, receive SMS codes, and keep one line for other countries. A sign-up form that accepts only +39 needs a line from another seller. We do not provide +39.

To keep the line active longer than a month, Orange asks you to verify your identity online with your passport. Questions? Contact us before you buy. See the full country list.

Italy plus other countries

One +33 line covers 42 countries, so Italy plus France or Spain uses the same eSIM. See the full country list. Read the Europe eSIM with phone number page, the France eSIM guide, and the Rome pilgrimage connectivity guide. Plans are on plans.

Italian Cities Breakdown

Rome, Florence, Venice, and Milan usually have usable mobile signal around the main sights and stations. Side streets and stone buildings can be weaker. On the coast road, tunnels and cliff sections can drop the signal, while town centers are more reliable. Countryside lanes vary by place. This is not a coverage ranking. See the full country list before you treat any area as included.

FAQ

Do I get an Italian number?

No, French +33. We do not provide +39.

Can I call Italian restaurants and hosts?

Yes, unlimited within Europe.

Will Italian banks or Trenitalia accept it?

Not guaranteed if they require +39. We do not provide +39.

Italy plus France or Spain?

Yes, 42 countries.

How do I check how much data I have left?

Dial #123# from the eSIM. Orange also texts you when you're under 2GB, and again when your data runs out.

What happens when my data runs out?

Data stops until you top up. You can do that on travel.orange.com, in an Orange shop, or at a tobacconist (tabac) in France.

How do I call local numbers?

Use the country code instead of the leading 0. In Italy, dial +39. In an emergency, dial 112, which is free.

Will I get texts when I cross a border?

Yes. When you arrive in a new country, Orange sends a welcome text with the emergency number and how to check your usage.

Do I need to register the number?

For trips up to a month, no. To keep the line active longer than a month, Orange asks you to verify your identity online with your passport.
